We enrich our community through supporting writers, artists, culture and heritage.

  • Residency Program

Wallace Stegner (1909-1993) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and leading environmentalist. In 1989 his boyhood home in Eastend, Saskatchewan, was restored by Eastend Arts Council as a residence for visiting artists and writers. Since then, it has hosted more than 300 residents from around the world.

The residence is owned and operated by Eastend Arts Council, a registered charity and volunteer-powered organization.

  • Our Current Resident

In January 2026 we welcome Miriam Korner, writer, to Wallace Stegner House.

Miriam Körner is an award winning and critically acclaimed children’s book illustrator, writer, and environmental advocate who lives with her nine sled dogs in a small cabin in northern Saskatchewan. Her most recent picture book Fox and Bear is a “love letter to nature disguised as a modern fable of ecological grief and hope” (The Marginalian).

  • Under the Roof

Please join us for our monthly, not-to-be-missed (and free!) event where the current resident of Wallace Stegner House gives our community a glimpse into their creative process and inspiration.

Throughout the year we host live music, the annual Big Flat Folk Fest, lectures, open mike sessions and other arts and culture programs.

“Homesickness is a great teacher. It taught me, during an endless rainy fall, that I came from the arid lands, and like where I came from.” Wallace Stegner

  • Wallace Stegner

Wallace Stegner (1909-1993) was a prolific writer of novels, short stories, and works of nonfiction. Stegner lived most of his life in the United States, but the genesis of his inspiration as a writer can be traced to southwest Saskatchewan.

  • Local Artists

The beauty of this corner of southwest Saskatchewan calls to artists and many have answered. Painters, musicians, potters, poets, writers, photographers and other creative people have made their home in Eastend.

It’s an exciting and friendly community to be part of, with more inspiration arriving each month with our Stegner House resident.
