Melanie Graven

Melanie Graven, in addition to being the owner of The Blue Dog Studio, a quirky coffee house focused on connecting local art to visitors and locals alike, is an artist in her own right. Melanie is proud to be upholding the town of Eastend’s long history with pottery fashioned of local clay.

She is at heart and by practice an Interpretive Naturalist and allows freely this love of ecosystems to influence the highly surface decorated functional wares that she creates. It’s the manipulation of clay, itself from this land, that Melanie uses to tell the stories of it through techniques such as glaze layering to echo our prairie palette or sgraffito and mishima to bring awareness of the creatures that share this land with us.

Melanie is resident artist at the Blue Dog Studio situated at 216 Spruce Ave North in Eastend and her work is also offered at the Resort at Cypress Hills, Rebellion in Maple Creek, Meeting Grounds Coffee House in Shaunavon as well as at a select number of artisan markets throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta.
