Dean Bauche

Bauche is a professional artist, curator, educator and adjudicator. He has 40 years of cultural and Gallery experience as a consultant, Director of Galleries for the City of North Battleford and the Director/ Curator of the Allen Sapp Gallery.

“Painting a portrait is akin to a process of stripping away what I know, stroke by stroke, attempting to reveal or discover what is hidden, I think when all the stripping is done and a work is successful we are left with something closer to truth, beauty or mystery. These, after all, are the invisible things, enclosed by the flesh.”

Works shown here are in oil, acrylic, and encaustic.

Bauche works in both traditional and new media, including acrylic and copper, but is best known for his evocative portraits in oil, watercolour and encaustic.

His work has won many awards and can be found in national publications as well as private and public collections across Canada including the collection of former Prime Minister John Turner.

Artist Statement

My art endeavors to explore many of the dimensions that make us human: spirit, body, mind, and place. The creative drive that shapes and forms my art is about “communion”. Each Subject offers its own emotional energy, shaping the nature of the expression. My art examines, dimensions of being, celebrating the familiar and unfamiliar. Both the human face and the importance of place have offered a continuous  source of fascination, inspiration and renewal throughout my artistic career. My work explores the many dimensions, moods and mysteries of both people and the places we live.
