Katrina Goetjen, Artist and Writer

Katrina Goetjen is an arts practitioner from Treaty 7 territory (ancestral land of the Blackfoot confederacy, including the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai, Iyarhe Stoney Nakoda, Tsuutina, andOtipemisiwak Métis).

They studied at Emily Carr University, receiving a BFA in Critical and Cultural Practices in 2019, then served Vancouver’s arts community through their roles as Gallery Coordinator at Or Gallery and Gallery Manager at Artspeak. Their work at Or Gallery included curating the projects: Coursing, an exhibition bringing together the artists Sidney Gordon, Karen Zalamea, and Ana Valine; and borrowed sceneries, a window installation featuring works by Gloria Wong.

Relocating in late 2024, Goetjen now lives in Mokinstis/Calgary, where they currently serve as the vice-president of the Bows Board of Directors, an artist-run centre that supports local artists through exhibitions, programs and at-cost studio spaces.

Goetjen’s creative practice focuses on utilizing photography and poetry to explore themes of contradiction, affect and environment, consciousness, and texture.
