Caroline Goodwin, Writer and Poet
December 2026
Caroline Goodwin's work explores themes of trauma survival and healing. In 2002 she lost an infant daughter and in 2016 she lost her beloved husband in a cycling accident. Over the years, poetry and collage have provided ways of beginning to make sense of the grief, and to integrate the reality of loss. She attended a SWG writers' retreat in Muenster, SK in 1995 and has been an avid fan of Canadian poetry for several decades, especially work from the prairies.
In California, she teaches poetry and memoir writing, and a seminar on Arctic writers and artists at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. She lives on the coast with her two pugs, Jimi Hendrix and Lyric, and is the proud mother of two grown daughters, Naomi and Izzy. At the Stegner House she will be working on new poems and a collection of essays. She is looking forward to being in Eastend in December 2026 and re-experiencing true winter.
