Memet Burnett

Artist Statement:

I am a sculptor, potter, painter, printmaker, photographer, poet, storywriter, and fiddler, and also a life-long naturalist, cold water swimmer and a retired veterinarian. I have a unique connection to animals and the environments that support them.

My deep interest and training in science and nature informs my explorations into the world’s beauty and stories. In my art, I merge a light-hearted, joyful colour awareness and appreciation with thoughtful exploration and celebration of the many issues affecting the natural world today.

In my writing I like to use humor as a spark to invite openness and self- reflection. I am a problem-solver and love to figure out new ways of telling stories. My art tells stories. Poems are tiny stories. Music is a story. Stories are stories. Life is a story.

I live beside the ocean in Victoria, BC, Canada, on lək̓ʷəŋən and Esquimalt traditional territory.
