David Carpenter

Carpenter began writing as a reviewer and translator before turning to writing fiction in the mid-1980s. Since 1985, he has published five novels and three collections of novellas and short fiction. He has also written five books of nonfiction and one collection of poetry. One of his ongoing fascinations is with the natural world, especially the wild landscapes in Saskatchewan's boreal forest, in the Cypress Hills, and in the Alberta Rockies. He is at work on a new manuscript about his encounters with wild animals.

He was Awarded an Honorary Doctorate (D. LItt.), University of Saskatchewan, 2018, as well as the Prime of Life Achievement Award from the University of Saskatchewan in 2016. He is also the winner of the Kloppenburg Award for Literacy Excellence, 2015, among many other literary awards.
